Thank you for exploring the church’s website. Our prayer is that you find helpful information which will guide you in your next step to finding a spiritual home. Our belief is that God brings you through the front doors of a church building. God has also blessed you with the spiritual gifts and passions which are important to a community of faith. Here at First Christian Church of DeLand, we are known as a place where people can wrestle with the hard realities about life and faith. We strive to be a place of relevance, a place where authentic spiritual conversations can safely occur, and a place to heal from doctrine of organized religion. We draw wisdom from Holy Scripture; we receive spiritual nurture every week from the sacred act of Communion; and we pray together trusting that God willingly receives our joys and concerns. Believing that all persons are created and dearly loved by God, we gather together to live, learn and practice loving God, others and ourselves.God loves you and longs for you to be filled with peace and grace. May this time in your faith journey lead you to your spiritual home.In Christ’s love,Pastor Linda Kemp-Baird
Unsure of what the future holds? Struggling with day to day living? Stressed by the news locally and worldwide?Feel lonely and out of touch with family and friends? Do you long for a way to gain ground and be centered somehow?Jesus said…”Come to me all of you who are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” Many individuals and couples have come through the doors of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) from other churches and all walks of life. He started one-on-one with each Disciple…calling them to follow Him. We believe that relationships are important too. We would love to make your acquaintance. Discover the Disciples Difference!
We have an informal Small Group Gathering at 8:15 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall at the west end of the building. Our Traditional Worship service is held in the Sanctuary at 10:45 a.m. with music, children’s message, prayer and sermon. Communion is served weekly at both services.
The Table of Grace - Central to Worship
The Lord’s Supper or Communion is celebrated in weekly worship. It is open to all who are followers of Jesus Christ. The practice of Holy Communion has become the central element of worship within the Disciples tradition. We serve 100% grape juice with bread and wafers.
Opportunities to Serve Others
Our congregation is active in serving in many different ways within our community. We aid many other organizations with building space, and one-on-one involvement in community-aid efforts like the local Interfaith Kitchen preparing meals for the homeless to packing shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan’s Purse.
We have 135 years of
