First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

Where We Love Jesus and Each Other.

You have found a place of worship.

You have found a place of welcome.

You have found the Disciples of Christ.

We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.

As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table

as God has welcomed us.

Unsure of what the future holds?  Struggling with day to day living?  Stressed by the news locally and worldwide? Feel lonely and out of touch with family and friends?  Do you long for a way to gain ground and be centered somehow? Jesus said…”Come to me all of you who are heavy laden and I will give you rest.”                                 (Matthew 11:28) Many individuals and couples have come through the doors of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) from other churches and all walks of life.  They are amazed as they walk through the door to be warmly greeted with a smile, handshake or a hug and feel “at home” for the first time in way too long.  Jesus was all about having relationships.  He started one-on-one with each Disciple…calling them to follow Him.  We believe that relationships are important too.  We would love to make your acquaintance.      Discover the Disciples Difference!

Sunday Morning Worship

Opportunities

We have an informal Small Group Gathering at 8:15 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall at the west end of the building.  Our Traditional Worship service is held in the Sanctuary at 10:45 a.m. with music, children’s message, prayer and sermon.  Communion is served weekly at both services.

The Table of Grace -  Central

to Worship

The Lord’s Supper or Communion is celebrated in weekly worship. It is open to all who are followers of Jesus Christ. The practice of Holy Communion has become the central element of worship within the Disciples tradition.  We serve 100% grape juice with bread and wafers.

Opportunities to Serve

Others

Our congregation is active in serving in many different ways within our community.  We aid many other organizations with building space, and one-on-one involvement in community-aid efforts like the local Interfaith Kitchen preparing meals for the homeless to packing shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan’s Purse.
Jan Edwards is the founder and CEO of Paving the Way, an organization committed to being a fierce disruption in the cycle of child trafficking around the globe. This is accomplished through educational and training programs that empower communities to break the cycle. Jan spent over 25 years as an executive in sales and marketing working with organizations like Time Warner, Bright House, the United Nations and other international groups, before taking on the worldwide initiative to prevent children from becoming victims of this silent crime. To date, she’s educated over 3,500 children, teens and young adults on this subject. Ms. Edwards has been featured in the Huffington Post, Marie Claire UK, on NBC and iHeart Radio as an expert in prevention and was recently awarded Humanitarian of the Year.     Jan is also the writer, director and producer of the award-winning film, Trapped in the Trade, which was featured on CNN.      Everyone is invited to come and hear this important talk about this awful crime that affects even us locally, here at home, in our town and in our community.  An abbreviated worship service will take place as well with music, prayer and open Communion for everyone.      Please share this information with your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers - especially any young girls and women so that they may be educated as to the dangers of this rampant crime.  Any questions may be directed to the church office by calling 386-734-0677 or by emailing: fccofdeland@att.net.  Thank you!
