Worship Services
8:15 a.m. Coffee With God
First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) began this informal, non-traditional service for those who wanted an early morning service that stimulated their faith. The weekly sermon title and Scripture is uploaded to our website giving those a preview of the weekly discussion.
Seated around tables, coffee and rolls in hand, the service begins with prayer and an invitation to the Lord's table. Then the group leader begins by engaging in discussion about the topic.
The interactive style allows people to ask the deeper questions and probe deeper faith issues in an open forum style. This experience of informal style may be new to people in our day but it was typical of worship in the earliest church settings when the early Christians starting church after Pentecost met in homes around the dinner table. They also celebrated the Lord's Supper in casual style and there were no formal sermons. People shared faith and questions as they learned together and prayed deeply. "Coffee With God" is, in a sense, a throw back to the ancient church that grew so boldly.
